Karin Torbjörnsdóttir mezzosoprano made her debut at the Icelandic Opera in 2019 singing the role
of Cherubino in the Marriage of Figaro by Mozart performed at the National Theater in the autumn
of 2019. She received the “Gríma” award as the Singer of the year in 2020 for her interpretation of
the role.
Karin is a versatile singer that has participated in world premieres of operas and chamber music and
performed at various concerts, sung roles in operas and performed at Music Festivals throughout
Europe the United States and Asia such as The Lucerne Festival, the Anima Mundi Festival in Pisa,
Italy, the 67 th Macau International Music Festival, the Barouque Night and the Nacht de Komponisten
in Salzburg.
Karin was born in Sweden and grew up there. She studied piano from and early age and studied at
the Reykjavík School of Singing with Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir and later graduated from the
Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. She completed her Bachelor´s degree in singing studying with
Barbara Bonney and finsihed her Master´s degree with honors in Opera sining and Perfoming Arts
with Andreas Macco.
Elena Postumi has participated in various performances and productions of the Icelandic Opera. She
began her musical career at the Santa Cecilia University of Music in Rome and graduated with the
highest honors in solo piano and composition. She also graduated from the La Sapienza University in
Rome with a degree in French and German lieder accompaniment in 2017.
From 2016 until 2020 she studied at the Leipzig University of Music under the guidance of Alexander
Schmalcz in the Master´s program and also in the Meisterklasse program of the University.
She has performed extensively in Europe and the United States and in 2019 she made her debut
with the Gewandhaus Orchestra in “The Carnival of the Animals” by Saint- Saëns at the Leipzig
Opera. She performed the Double Concerto BWV 106 by Bach with Tommaso Graiff in Leipzig and
Beethoven´s 5 th Piano Concerto at the “Beethoven 2020” celebrations in Rome. Elena currently holds
the position of Solo Repetiteur and Assistant Conductor at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt.
