Opera singer Karin Torbjörnsdóttir currently resides in Prague, Czech Republic, where she broadened her skills in film acting and film making during 2017/18. In the present moment, Karin is preparing new repertoire, making recordings.
Some of her prior engagements include Luzerner Theater (CH), under the new regime of Benedikt von Peter, and at the opera studio in Staatsoper Stuttgart (DE) with Jossi Wieler.
    Festivals include Lucerne Festival (CH), Anima Mundi in Pisa (IT) International Music Festival Macau (CN), Barocknacht, Nacht der Komponisten (AT).

    Musically versatile, Karin has already shown some of her many colours with operatic repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary, specialising in Mozart and early romantic music.
    Roles include Alto 2 Luigi Nono's "Prometeo" in collaboration with the Lucerne Festival, 2nd Lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" , Flora Bervoix in Verdi's "La traviata", as well as performing as 'Mezzo soprano 1' in Monteverdi's "Vespro Della Beata Vergine" with choreographer Sebastian Matthias, again in collaboration with the Lucerne Festival, under the musical guidance of Swede Olof Boman. 

As a member of the opera studio Staatsoper Stuttgart season 2014/15, she performed in various operas, including  "Jenůfa", Janáček; "Il barbiere di Siviglia", Rossini, and covered Dorabella in "Così fan tutte", Mozart. In Stuttgart Karin worked with conductors such as: Franck Ollu, David Parry, Giuliano Carella, Sylvain Cambreling and Manilo Benzi; as well as directors Jossi WielerYannick Hourvadas and Andrea Breth(FAUST-award winner 2015 Regi Musiktheater), participating in the production of Jakob Lenz, W. Rihm(Aufführung des Jahres 2015) with Georg Nigl (Sänger des Jahres 2015) in the title role.

Born in Lund, Sweden, the early musical background of the Icelandic mezzo soprano include piano studies and competition-leveled choral singing, followed by private vocal studies with Swedish Mezzo/Alto KerstinGrevelius and Prof. Laura Sarti before enrolling the Reykjavík Academy of Singing and Vocal Arts in Iceland, graduating DipABRSM with Distinction. Further studies at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg followed; Bachelor studies 2010-12, and Master of Arts - Opera and music theater 2012-14, lastly with Andreas Macco, Prof. Josef Wallnig and Eike Gramss, graduating on both occasions with Distinction.

During her studies, Karin sang numerous concerts and staged performances in i.a. Iceland, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Slovenia, Macau and the United States. Notable performances are 2nd Soprano in c minor Mass by Mozart in Sir Eliot Gardiner's Anima Mundi festival in Pisa, Italy; and her Asia debut at the International Music Festival Macau (China), portraying the role of Bastien in Mozart's “Bastien und Bastienne”, in collaboration with Mozart Opern Institute.
On the operatic stage she portrayed a diversity of roles, mentioning; Annio, Bastien, Cherubino (Mozart), Rosina, Berta, Tisbe, Zulma (Rossini), Annina, Flora (Verdi), Pastuchyna (Janacek), Ottavia (Caldara) and Der Trommler (Ullmann).
In Austria she also collaborated with Musicacosì on numerous occasions, i.a. Nacht der Komponisten in Salzburg, and in other concerts performing diverse music styles, from baroque to contemporary includingBarón D'Astorga and Arvo Pärt. Manily in vocal ensembles of quartets and octets, 'a capella' as well as with chamber instruments and early music ensembles.

Master classes of Voice and Operatic repertoire with Laura Sarti, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Galina Pisarenko, Donald Kaasch, Martha Sharp, Margaret Singer, Jane Thorner and Marianne Cornetti. Lied with Clara Taylor, Richard Stokes and Breda Zakotnik; baroque gestures and acting with Margit Legler, improvisational acting with Nicola Hümpel, as well as voice lessons with soprano Monika Lenz.
Her current teacher is mezzo-soprano Helene Schneiderman.
