The beloved opera La Traviata by Giuseppi Verdi will be premiered in Harpa´s main hall Eldborg on March 9th 2019. The opera is in three acts and is about the love of life, freedom, and forbidden love. It was premiered in Venice in 1853. It is set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on La Dame aux Camélias a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. The opera was originally titled Violetta after the main character and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful operas ever written. Attraction between a Parisian courtesan and a young man from a provincial family leads to a forbidden romance that turns into a scandalous affair and ends up as a heartbreaking tragedy.

The production will be conducted by Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, the Music Director of the Icelandic Opera and stage director will be Oriol Tomas from Canada. Set designer is Simon Guilbault and Sébastien Dionne designes the costumes. The video will be designed by Félix Fradet-Faquy.
