The Icelandic opera will revive the opera La Traviata by Verdi in Harpa´s main hall Eldborg on November 6th and in Hof in Akureyri November 13th. This famous opera about love of life, freedom, and forbidden love is in three acts and was premiered in Venice in 1853. It is set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on La Dame aux Camélias a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas. The opera was originally titled Violetta after the main character and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful operas of the opera repertoire. Attraction between a Parisian courtesan and a young man from a provincial family leads to a forbidden romance that turns into a scandalous affair and ends up as a heartbreaking tragedy.
