Kristinn Sigmundsson is one of the world’s most sought after basses, and has for decades been one of Iceland's best-loved singers. The 2015-16 season included starring as the Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlos at the Staatsoper Hamburg and Hunding in excerpts of Die Walküre with the Dallas Symphony. In a long and fruitful career, Kristinn has sung in many of the world's best opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, London's Covent Garden and Berlin's Staatsoper. A distinguished singer of Lieder as well as opera, Kristinn has released numerous recordings of lieder, including Schubert's Winterreise with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, which won the Icelandic Music Awards as the best recording in 2012. Kristinn received the honorary award for his outstanding contribution to Icelandic music at this year's Icelandic Music Awards.
